Friendship Agape Church - A Christian Reformed Church of America

Our Name and Logo

Friendship Agape Church - our new logo

agape - selfless love of one person for another,
as in God's love for His people

Our church name, Friendship Agape, was originally chosen to express how the fellowship of believers would lead others to know and understand God's love (agape). Originally, the church was originally known as Santa Clara Chinese Church. In an effort to expand the church's boundaries beyond Chinese and the Santa Clara community, the name Friendship Agape was selected.

In August 2008, the Steering Committee of Friendship Agape selected a new logo to represent the church. This new design represents these concepts:

  • Given our church names contains both friendship and agape (two types of love), it's fitting that we use the universal symbol for love--a heart--in the new logo.

  • Throughout Scripture (Acts 16:14, 2 Cor 6:11, 13 and Luke 24:32), the Lord opens peoples' hearts so that they can respond to the Scriptures and the message of salvation. The new logo symbolizes a heart that is open and dynamic.

  • The Friendship Agape Church (name) stands at the doorway of that open heart. The white heart signifies purity and how we must come before our God (with a pure heart).

  • The red color, matched to our denomination's red logo, symbolizes both Christ's sacrificial blood but also our traditional Chinese heritage.
