As we look forward to Christ's return on earth, Advent (from the Latin "coming") allows us to embrace waiting on God's perfect timing. Candle lighting and reading from Scripture helps us to find contentment and joy--something that even a room full of Christmas gifts could never truly satisfy.
How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of him who brings good news,
who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
who publishes salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”
